Puliyogare
Origin: Though the exact period of puliyogare's origin is unknown; Harihara, the court poet of the Hoysala empire, has written about this rice preparation that dates back to 1165 AD. Melkote Iyengar Puliyogare is well known.
This mouthwatering, sweetish-sour rice is closely connected with the Iyengar community. Puli means sour, and ogare means rice in medieval Kannada. However, it is not very clear whether it belongs to Tamil Nadu or Karnataka or where this dish started.
Again, there are variations in this. In Andhra Pradesh, it is known as pulihora. It is even known as Puliyodharai and Pulinchoru.

Agra Petha
Agra is synonymous with the marble-dressed Taj Mahal and the marble-like white delectable sweet Agra Petha.
Origin: It is amazing to know that this sweet came into being during the Mughal Empire. It is believed that the then ruler Shah Jahan told his regal chefs to create a sweet dish as white and pure as the Taj Mahal itself. And yes, the sweet Petha came into being. The story says that this sweet used to enliven the huge number of workers involved in the building of the world-famous Taj Mahal.
Our trip to Agra is incomplete without eating and taking some parcels of the Petha.
The main ingredients that go into making this dish are ash gourd and sugar. It is quite a lengthy procedure, but definitely worth it.
PS: The first time I ate was when my dad had been to Agra on an official tour, and he brought back some petha. That was the first time I ate, and I just loved it.
