Summer is here!

Gowri

As the winter bids adieu, summer is here to welcome us with all its glorious warmth. Taking care of yourself during the summer is essential to staying healthy, comfortable, and safe in the hot weather.

Here are some tips to help you take care of yourself during the summer months:

  1. Keep Yourself Hydrated: Sip lots of water throughout the day, especially while you're outside or doing vigorous activity. It's critical to remain hydrated in hot temperatures since dehydration may happen rapidly.

  2. Use sunscreen with a high SPF to shield your skin from UV rays that might be harmful. Especially if you swim or perspire, use a lot of sunscreen and reapply it frequently. Sunburn can also be avoided by wearing hats and other protective clothing, such as a suncoat and sunglasses.

  3. Keep Your Cool: When it's too hot outside, look for shade or air conditioning. Spend as little time as possible in direct sunlight, especially during the hottest parts of the day, which are typically from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  4. Dress Appropriately: To help keep your body cool, choose loose-fitting, lightweight clothes made of breathable materials like cotton. Compared to dark shades, bright colours help you stay cooler since they reflect sunshine.

  5. Eat Light and Fresh: Choose simple, light meals like salads, fruits, and vegetables that are easier to digest. Avoid fatty, heavy meals that could make you feel lethargic in the summertime.

  6. Exercise Smart: If you enjoy exercising outdoors, do so during the more favourable parts of the day, like early morning or late evening. Stay hydrated and take breaks as needed to prevent overheating.

  7. Apply insect repellent to avoid mosquito bites, especially outside in the evening. Wearing long sleeves and pants might also provide additional protection.

  8. Keep yourself informed by monitoring local heat advisories and warnings and checking weather forecasts. In periods of excessive heat, stay inside and watch anyone at risk, such as older people or those suffering from long-term ailments.

  9. Instead of packaged aerated juices, use natural drinks like fresh fruit, coconut water, lemonade, milkshakes, etc.

  10. Stay Safe in the Water: If you're swimming or participating in water activities, practice water safety by following rules and guidelines. Stay within designated swimming areas, never swim alone, and keep an eye on children at all times.

  11. Get Enough Sleep: Make sure you're receiving enough sleep at night because this is when your body heals and regenerates. To encourage sound sleep, avoid coffee and large meals just before bed.

  12. Put on light-coloured linens, bedspreads, and blankets, and remove the rugs to soothe the surroundings.

You can spend the summer having fun, comfortably, safely, and in good health by paying attention to these pointers.
